Fun Fun Fun!
Make the most of your event so that it’s not just a walk – it’s a journey to understanding and taking action to provide access to safe water for the poorest and most disadvantaged communities in developing countries. Take every opportunity to help people learn more about what they’re doing. Here are a few ideas:
- Produce a quiz about water.
- Give out maps, showing points of interest along the way.
- Have ‘surprise guests’ situated along the route.
- Do it in fancy dress.
- Dance your way along the route (it simply has to be tap!).
- Have a marching band.
- Enjoy breakfast or refreshments together afterwards!
- Hold a short water-themed service at the end.
Rise and Shine!
Here’s an extra challenge you might want to try. Many women have to get up at dawn to get enough water for the day ahead. So why not plan an early morning walk! (We’ve worked it out: if you want to see the sun rise on May 10th in the UK, you’ll need to gather people at 5.00 am).
The Extra Mile
Four miles is not much, we admit. But there’s no reason why your journey shouldn’t take you further. If you want to carry on beyond the day you could:
- Donate every time you use the tap. Collect money in a plastic water bottle. Print off a bottle label and stick on a water bottle. Put a bottle by the sink, or one by every tap in the house. Put a coin in each time the tap is turned. How long does it take to fill the bottle?
- Donate every time you walk four miles. Buy a pedometer and see how far you walk in a day. Every time you hit four miles, put a coin in the water bottle. Alternatively, take the bottle to the gym and put one in each time you walk four miles on the treadmill. There’s no reason why you can’t make your Turn on the Tap Challenge the event of the year!
